Visual Effects Masterclass with Oscar-winning Visual Effects Supervisor, Dan Lemmon

End City Productions will be hosting a 1 hour online masterclass this Friday the 21 February at 9:00am-10:00am about Visual Effects and its functions in the film industry.

The presenter will be conducting a Q&A session during the masterclass. The masterclass will be presented by Oscar-winning Visual Effects Supervisor, Dan Lemmon. This is part of thier New Zealand Screen Production Rebate application for the 5% Uplift for Minecraft.

Dan moved to New Zealand from Los Angeles over 20 years ago to work on the Lord of the Rings movies, and he is known for his work on The Batman, The Planet of the Apes: Caesar Trilogy, The Jungle Book, and many other films.

Dan will cover the following topics:

  • The Suspension of Disbelief – The role of illusion in storytelling, and how Visual Effects can enhance (or detract from!) the Cinematic Experience.

  • Past, Present and Future – Early process and techniques, more recent advances, and everything in between.

  • Visual Effects through the Film Production process – Development, Prep, Production, and Post.

  • How the Visual Effects department helps to conceptualize, budget, schedule and execute many of Cinema’s most stunning and memorable moments.

  • Collaboration – Working closely with the Art Department, Special Effects, Stunts, Camera, Lighting, Grips, Editorial, and the Director. Also: Previs, the Virtual Art Department (VAD), Tech-viz and Storyboards.
