Two New NZFC Opportunities for Animation Creatives

NZFC has announced two big moves to boost New Zealand animation, revealed by Chief Executive Annie Murray at the Wellington Animation Film Festival (WAFF) in March.

1. Return to Annecy + Travel Fund
New Zealand will return to the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and MIFA market in 2025. NZFC and Screen Wellington will co-host a stand, and NZ producers can apply for up to $6,500 in travel support through the Producer International Travel Fund.

Applications close 5pm, Tuesday 22 April 2025.

2. He Kauahi Catalyst Fund Relaunch
In mid-2025, $500,000 will be available exclusively for animated short films. Up to five teams will receive $90K for production and $10K for feature development. The fund will run year-round, allowing filmmakers to apply when their project is ready.

Both initiatives aim to build international visibility, spark career momentum, and grow Aotearoa’s global footprint in animation.
