VFX Guild South Island Launch Event

The VFX Guild presents Reuben Smith, Ray Sena and Michael Rew discussing the art of VFX across multiple industries.

The Visual Effects Professional’s Guild of New Zealand (VFXG) is a non-profit organisation established to represent VFX and animation professionals throughout New Zealand. We have come a long way since our soft launch in 2022 and are excited to be telling the Christchurch VFX and Game Development industry about it!

We have assembled some top notch VFX and animation artists for the evening. Michael Rew, Technical Artist and Animator, Reuben Smith, Environment Artist and Ray Sena, VFX Senior Generalist, who will all be joining us to talk about VFX artistry, tools and emerging technologies in film, game development and many other industries. 

We welcome local screen industry, VFX academic staff and students on Monday the 27th of November to the Yoobee College of Creative Innovation for a networking event, doors open at 7PM. 

We are promoting our ‘Join Now’ Campaign which offers members who sign up on the night and receive 25% off of their annual membership fee.  

We are delighted to have these speakers with such diverse backgrounds joining our event:

Ray Sena has 24 years experience primarily in VFX for film, including Happy Feet, Transformers, and Cosmos A SpaceTime Odyssey, to name a few.  His other VFX work includes virtual production, medical animation, VFX for big tech, game cinematics, theme park experiences, on set VFX previsualisation, aerial scanning for VFX projects, VFX visuals for large concerts, automotive and architectural visualisation, as well as VR and AR. He currently works as a VFX Consultant and Senior Generalist with Tippett Studio. 

Reuben Smith has worked in the film, television & games industry for 10 years. Starting at Wētā Gameshop, he developed Mixed Reality content for Magic Leap before moving to BRON where he worked exclusively in Unreal Engine for Film. He then moved to Wētā Digital where he worked on various Marvel films and the latest Avatar feature. He is now with Space rock Games as a Senior Environment Artist on their first game called Criminals Within.

Michael Rew is a Technical Artist and Animator for CerebralFix. He has a background in traditional rendering pipelines and has worked as a visualiser, teacher and consultant through his own business Small Robot Studio.
